An 8-year-old boy from Ocala who made it to the finals for “best mullet hairstyle” in the United States with a hairstyle he called “Marion County Masterpiece” has raised more funds than all of his competitors and generated over $7,000 in donations for Homes for Wounded Warriors.

Jack Kuentjes has made it to the third and final round of the 2024 USA Mullet Championship.

In July, Jack’s Mullet was chosen among the top 100 from hundreds of entrants. Now, Jack’s Mullet is one of 25 who have made it to the final round of the competition, which includes children in three age groups: Lil’ Nuggets (ages 0-4), Mid Mullets (ages 5-7) and Big Kids (ages 8-12).

Voting for the contest is open until August 21st and the champion will be crowned on Wednesday, August 28th.

According to the USA Mullet Championship, the competition uses a weighted voting system that takes into account fan voting, fundraising and judging. Each category has a weighting that is added up to a total score for each competitor.

During the competition, donations can be made in the name of participants to Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors. Allen’s nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing injury-adapted, handicap-accessible, and mortgage-free housing for seriously injured U.S. military veterans.

The amount of money each participant raises for charity contributes to their total score in the competition.

As of Monday, August 19, Keuntjes had raised $7,842, putting him ahead of all competitors.
