7-year-old boy fatally hit by school bus in Terrebonne Parish

MONTEGUT, Louisiana. (WVUE) — A 7-year-old boy was fatally injured when struck by a school bus in Terrebonne Parish on Thursday, August 22. Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Jeremiah Falgout. School officials say he attended Montegut Elementary School.

Investigators say the bus driver stopped in the 500 block of Highway 665, turned on his hazard lights and let children off the bus, including the 7-year-old. As the bus drove off, the driver somehow struck Falgout, cops say.

The boy was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Township Supervisor Aubrey Orgeron Jr. called the incident “devastating,” saying the bus driver was a temporary driver who had been driving the route earlier in the week.

“He was a good friend, the kids on the bus were good friends of his. His mother and his family loved him. They loved him,” he said.

Grief counselors will be on campus to provide support to students and faculty.

“He liked to smile a lot and play with his friends and stuff. He liked Spider-Man and stuff,” said third-grader Riley.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the student, his family and the bus driver involved,” a district spokesman said.

Police said the driver was breathalyzer tested and found to be free from impairment.

State police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. The school district has submitted a video.
