Wednesday was the last day this week where temperatures were expected to reach 90 degrees, meaning it’s finally time to enjoy the outdoors – unless it rains.

Here are seven things to do in Howard County the week ending August 15.

Dierks Bentley Concert

17:30 Thursday

Start the weekend a little early with an evening at the Merriweather Post Pavilion and sing along with country singer Dierks Bentley. Grab some snacks and enjoy newer hits like “Drunk on a Plane” and classics from his 2005 album “Modern Day Drifter.”

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:00 p.m. Chase Rice and Kaitlin Butts will be opening for Bentley on the Gravel & Gold Tour. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster starting at $58.35 including fees.

Sad Summer Festival

Friday, 1pm

Despite its name, the Sad Summer Festival is another fun way to kick off the weekend. Head back to the Merriweather Post Pavilion and enjoy, dance and sing along with nine punk rock and pop rock bands on the Chrysalis Stage. The headliners – emo classics Mayday Parade and The Maine – are joining the festival for its fifth anniversary.

Stories under the stars

Friday, 7 p.m.

If you’ve had enough live music for the summer, there’s another option for you on Friday: listen to a story while bathing in starlight.

Join award-winning storyteller Dovie Thomason for an hour-long program of nature-based storytelling at the Howard County Conservancy. She has been a storyteller for 40 years, sharing cultural, historical and family stories.

Intersectional Book Club

Friday, 5 p.m.

A Friday option for those looking for something to do indoors is Between the Lines: An Intersectional Book Club. The book of the month is Iron Widow, and book club attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the book and its significance and grab snacks and beverages.

The book club meeting is held the second Friday of every month at Brewing Good Coffee Co. in Savage. Registration is optional and it is recommended that you arrive just before 5 p.m. so you have a chance to grab a bite to eat at the coffee counter.

All you need are the Beatles

Saturday, 7 p.m.

Are you a Beatles fan? Then this concert is just right for you. Collective Encore in Columbia presents “All You Need is Beatles” to take fans of the Fab Four back in time.

The tribute band consists of four musicians who have made a name for themselves in the DC music scene. The group will bring the Beatles’ “iconic songbook to life with electrifying precision and joyful performances.”

Doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 8pm. Tickets cost $27.85 including fees.

Workshop for making witch bells

Sunday lunch

Spend Sunday afternoon on Main Street in Old Ellicott City, learning about the history of witch bells, then making your own to hang in your home. Witch bells are used to bring positive energy into your space and serve as a symbol of protection and prosperity.

The workshop will be held at the Bohemian House and tickets are $28.52 including fees. Tickets will close shortly before the workshop, during which light snacks will be provided.

Lakefront Live Movie Night

Join Mr. B, a Columbia film stalwart who has been bringing films to the community for nearly five decades, for a Harry Potter movie night at the Columbia Lakefront.

Grab your blankets and chairs and settle in to watch “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” for free as part of the Columbia Association’s Lakefront Live series. You can also bring your own food – just no alcohol – but local restaurant The Collective Offshore will be providing food at the event.
