65-year-old dies after alleged accident under the influence of alcohol in south Las Vegas

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, a 65-year-old man died early Saturday morning after a suspected traffic accident under the influence of alcohol.

At approximately 12:07 a.m., LVMPD received reports of a two-vehicle crash on South Las Vegas Boulevard at the intersection with East Pyle Avenue.

According to police, a Nissan Rogue was traveling north on Las Vegas Boulevard approaching Pyle Avenue, while a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling south on Las Vegas Boulevard approaching Pyle Avenue in the only left-turn lane.

According to police, the driver of the Jeep ignored the right of way and abruptly turned left/east while crossing the Nissan’s path.

According to LVMPD, the front of the Nissan struck the right side of the Jeep, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to the UMC Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Jeep was taken to the UMC Trauma Center with minor injuries.

According to LVMPD, the driver of the Jeep showed signs of impairment and was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a DUI causing death charge.

The death of the Nissan driver was the 93rd traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2024.

This accident remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Division.
