6-year-old dies from gunshot wounds in murder-suicide case at Nash & Wilson Co.

WILSON/NASH COUNTY, NC (WITN) – More details are being released in the investigation into a murder-suicide case that spans two counties.

According to investigators, 32-year-old Daquan Jones of Rocky Mount is accused of shooting three people and wounding two others.

Our NBC partner WRAL reports from police that Jones shot his six-year-old daughter, his girlfriend Kiera Massenburg and two friends on Sunday before turning the gun on himself.

According to new records, he had been released from Edgecombe County Jail earlier that day on assault charges.

The records also show that Jones has abused his girlfriend in the past.

According to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Sharpsburg police received a 911 call about multiple gunshot victims at 141 Weaver Circle around 5 a.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot lying on the ground. A woman was also found with a gunshot wound. Officials said both were taken to ECU Health Medical Center for surgery.

Investigators say Jones left the Weaver Circle crime scene with his shot 6-year-old daughter, Zoey Jones, and dropped her off at a home in Nash County. The family confirmed to WRAL that Zoey died Monday night.

Officials say Jones was tracked to a home on Jamie Road in Nash County. When Nash County officers arrived, they found the suspect’s vehicle in the driveway of a home on Jamie Road. Officers then approached the vehicle and found his girlfriend, Massenburg, dead in the back seat.

As officers approached the home, they heard a gunshot coming from inside the home. A man then came through the side door of the home and told officers that Jones had shot himself. Officers found Jones dead in the front bedroom of the home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This is an ongoing investigation. If anyone has any additional information regarding this case, please contact the Wilson County or Nash County Sheriff’s Office.
