A five-year-old Buffalo boy is on the verge of setting a new state fishing record after catching a pumpkinseed fish last weekend.
Gregory Martin pulled the 1 pound, 15 ounce fish ashore while fishing with his family on Oneida Lake late Saturday morning.
He used the boat of his aunt Hope Pragacz of Binghamton, New York. According to Pragacz, Martin used a hook, worm and dropshot lead.
Although the fish lost an ounce in transit, its weight of 1 pound 14 ounces still beats the current record of 1 pound 9 ounces set in 1994 and reached in 2020.
The catch is awaiting official certification by the DEC. More details to follow shortly.
