When the Browns lost Sione Takitaki on the free agent market, they responded by signing Devin Bush. Bush, a first-round pick out of Michigan in 2019, spent four years in Pittsburgh and one year in Seattle. Considered a flop, there wasn’t much excitement about his arrival. That could change after his performance on Saturday.

Bush showed his strength early when he stopped AJ Dillon on a third-and-2 attempt in the first quarter. That’s no easy task considering Dillon weighs 247 pounds. The Browns stopped Green Bay again on the next play, forcing them to punt. In total, Bush had six tackles, proving he could be another home run for general manager Andrew Berry in free agency.

Ronnie Hickman has had a solid start to his NFL career in 2023. The undrafted free agent from Ohio State was pushed into action due to injuries and did not disappoint, having 25 tackles and a pick in 10 games and exceeding expectations in coverage.

So it was a surprise to see him burned out on the opening drive when Dontavyion Wicks passed him for a 65-yard touchdown.

After the game, Hickman limped off the field. It wasn’t an ideal start and the injury meant he had no chance to rehabilitate.

Defensive end is arguably the most loaded position on Cleveland’s roster. Myles Garrett, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and Za’Darius Smith are their starters, but they could go into the game with Ogbo Okoronkwo and Alex Wright as starters and be fine.

And the depth doesn’t end there. Cleveland also has Isaiah McGuire, a fourth-round pick in 2023. His presence kept Isaiah Thomas off the field last year, but on Saturday he reminded everyone how good he can be.

Thomas had one tackle that resulted in a loss of yardage, but his play was noticeable beyond that, too. He had several quarterback hurries and was instrumental in the turnovers on downs in the first quarter. Devin Bush was (rightly) praised for stopping AJ Dillon, but Thomas was the one who clogged the running lane first, forcing Dillon to push the ball outside where Bush was waiting.
