5 Shocking Deadline Day Trades the Commanders Could Make in 2024

5 Shocking Deadline Day Trades the Commanders Could Make in 2024

The Washington Commanders are in the process of reducing their roster from 90 players to an initial 53. Those fighting for a spot no longer have a chance. Their fate lies in the hands of general manager Adam Peters, head coach Dan Quinn and other influential figures within the organization.

Peters is the man under a bigger microscope than most. This is his show from a personnel perspective. Everyone has a valued opinion as part of a new collaborative, professional approach. But the final word belongs to the respected former San Francisco 49ers executive.

The Commanders have aggressively assembled their roster under Peters’ leadership. Jahan Dotson’s trade to the Philadelphia Eagles was another prime example. Nothing is out of the question if the new front office chief believes it is best for this once-proud organization. This only adds to the intrigue during a difficult season for hundreds of NFL hopefuls.

With that in mind, here are five shocking trades the Commanders could make at the 2024 deadline.

Commanders could trade for John Metchie III

The Washington Commanders could be looking for another wide receiver after Jahan Dotson left for the Philadelphia Eagles. He wasn’t considered a fit and left the team for the best available offer. Whether the offense has enough talented pass receivers for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels to hit the ground running is another question.

Adam Peters will be waiting to strike with conviction when the right opportunity presents itself. There are rumors that John Metchie III could be available to trade thanks to the abundance of weapons the Houston Texans have at their disposal. While it’s risky, it could provide some needed momentum after Dotson’s departure.

Metchie has had a lot of bad luck since entering the league as a second-round pick. Now things seem to be looking up for the player, which is why several teams have already inquired about his availability, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

It has not been announced whether the Commanders will be included, but the move makes sense if the price is right.
