4 cities in Wisconsin are on the list of the 50 “hottest” zip codes in the USA

WISCONSIN – Four of the “hottest” zip codes to live in in 2024 are here in Wisconsin, according to a list released Tuesday by Realtor.com.

They were listed in the new Hottest ZIP Codes Report – a national ranking of the most important real estate markets.

The 12th overall place is 53151 in New Berlin

  • Average days on market: 23
  • Average list price Jan-June: $408,000

The 41st place overall is 53081 in Sheboygan

  • Average days on market: 30
  • Average list price Jan-June: $248,000

The 43rd place overall is 54901 in Oshkosh

  • Average days on market: 30
  • Average list price Jan-June: $230,000

The 46th place overall is 53545 in Janesville

  • Average days on market: 32
  • Average list price Jan-June: $316,000

Realtor.com’s ranking of hottest zip codes is based on an algorithm that takes into account two aspects of the real estate market:

  1. Market demand, measured by unique viewers per property on Realtor.com.
  2. The speed of the market, measured by the number of days a listing remains active on the site.

“The most desirable areas are those where there is high buyer demand, meaning there are many individual buyers per property and homes that sell quickly, which is an indicator of limited supply,” says Realtor.com.

Only places in the Northeast and Midwest were represented in this year’s top 10. Real estate markets in the South and West have become more expensive after many people flocked to those areas during the pandemic, Realtor.com explains.

Many of the top 10 markets are also located near major cities and offer significantly lower prices than the larger cities nearby. Gawanna, Ohio (43230) is the highest-rated zip code for the second year in a row and is located just outside of Columbus.

“Although mortgage rate relief is on the horizon,” said Danielle Hale, chief economist for Realtor.com, “this year’s most desirable ZIP codes reflect the focus on affordability that homebuyers have placed in recent years amid high housing costs. These top 10 ZIP codes, concentrated in larger metropolitan areas in the Northeast and Midwest, are attracting highly qualified homebuyers seeking more space without sacrificing proximity to urban amenities.”
