3 Napa County hotels make USA Today’s list

Not just one, but three hotels in Napa Valley have been named among the best wine country hotels in the USA.

The Poetry Inn in Napa, the Four Seasons Resort and Residences in Calistoga and the Meadowood in St. Helena were among 10 hotels on a July 31 USA Today list honoring the best hospitality in Wine Country.

USA Today’s list was selected by a panel of experts and voted on by readers. The places on the list were deemed the perfect places to “relax with a glass of wine after a day of sightseeing and tasting in wine regions across the country.”

Meadowood Napa Valley came in at number 7, Four Seasons Resort and Residences at number 9, and Poetry Inn Napa Valley at number 10.

Meadowood Napa Valley has been called a “favorite among wine writers, winery owners and local enthusiasts.” The 250-acre property offers five different accommodation types, including one-bedroom units and suites.

Overnight rates range from $900 to $3,750 per night, depending on the time of year and choice of accommodation.

According to USA Today, the Four Seasons Resort and Residences offers an “at-home experience” with its own vineyard, tasting room and Michelin-starred restaurant. A night at the Calistoga property costs between $900 and $10,000, depending on the room and the month.

Poetry Inn Napa Valley was founded in 2002 by Cliff Lede, owner of Cliff Lede Vineyards. The secluded inn sits on a hill surrounded by Poetry Vineyards, the source of the winery’s flagship wine, called Poetry, according to the winery’s website. Nightly rates range from $1,438 to $2,243 per night, depending on the month.

Seven of the ten hotels listed were in California.

South Coast Winery Resort and Spa in Temecula, Riverside County, ranked No. 8 for its award-winning wines and restaurant, vineyard tours and cooking classes, according to the USA Today list.

Wine and Roses in Lodi (San Joaquin County) came in at number 5. USA Today chose it for its spacious rooms and amenities and its location in the “charming” city of Lodi.

Also in Temecula, Bolero Casitas at Europa Village came in fourth place, with particular emphasis on its fusion of rustic charm with modern luxury, making it an “unparalleled retreat for wine lovers.”

Topping the list is Chateau Chantel in Traverse City, Michigan. USA Today said the bed and breakfast has “extraordinary views” from all suites and rooms and many have private patios, balconies, wet bars and hot tubs.

Other award winners include: The Winchester Inn, Ashland, Oregon (6th place) and Inn at Black Star Farms in Sutton Bay, Michigan (3rd place).
