29-year-old New Jersey man sentenced to 90 years in prison for brutal murder

A 29-year-old Burlington County man was sentenced to 90 years in prison Monday for fatally beating a man in a Beverly City home two years ago.

Larry Brown must serve 73 years before he can be paroled, at which point he would be 102 years old.

In March, a jury convicted Brown of murder and other charges related to the fact that he then barricaded himself in the house with a woman and four children, causing a standoff with police officers arriving at the scene.

Specifically, after several hours of deliberation over three days, the jury found Brown guilty of first-degree murder, five counts of first-degree kidnapping, second-degree illegal possession of a weapon, third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree terroristic threatening, and related weapons offenses.

According to the Burlington County District Attorney’s Office, the investigation began around 1:15 a.m. on June 14, 2022, when Beverly City Police received information that Brown had killed 34-year-old Cecilio Luciano after arriving at a home on Bentley Avenue and was still inside with the woman and children.

When Brown refused to leave the home, New Jersey State Police crisis negotiators were called and the woman and children emerged unharmed within the next few hours. Brown, who was primarily living with a relative in Burlington Township, emerged around 8:30 a.m. and was taken into custody.

The NJSP TEAMS unit then entered the house and discovered Luciano’s body.

An autopsy revealed that Luciano, of Highland Park, had been beaten to death with a baseball bat.
