Preview of the 2024 season

Golf: Two of their top players from last year return in junior Wyatt Gatton and senior Carter Weldon. They are joined by many new golfers, but two that stand out are freshmen Carsen Webb and Treyson Blades.

Among the girls, only Macie Caraway returned.

“We are so young that our main goal is to continue to improve in all facets of our game,” said head coach Stephen Riggs. “We have to find ways to recruit girls and keep them in the program. We started with several young ladies who wanted to try out, but in the end only Macie Caraway stuck with us.”

Girls’ soccer: McClean County plays a 4-4-2 formation with an emphasis on possession and tempo of play. Returning to the team are midfielders Alma Perez and Shelby Hawley, striker Danielle Reynolds and goalkeeper Emily LeBlanc. They are joined by emerging forwards Landry Humphrey and defender Braelyn Thomas.

“We want to be competitive,” said head coach Ricky Humphrey. “My message to my players is to be better in October than they were in July.”

Volleyball: With only three seniors on the roster, including senior Rachel Robers and junior Hadley Young and Ragan Brown, McLean County is experiencing a youth movement. Second-graders Abbi Shivers and Addy Kirby are expected to take the next step and will be joined by first-grader Marybeth Miller.

“We want the girls to enjoy the game,” said head coach Traci Capps. “I believe a successful season will follow.”
