1 dead and 1 arrested after domestic violence call in rural Beltrami County

BELTRAMI COUNTY – One person was pronounced dead and another was arrested following a domestic violence call in rural southeast Beltrami County early Saturday morning.

According to a press release from Beltrami County Deputy Police Chief Jarrett Walton, a 911 call was received at 4:36 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, reporting a domestic dispute outside a residence in Ten Lake Township.

Deputies and Leech Lake police arrived at the scene. When officers arrived, the domestic altercation was ongoing and one person was unresponsive and not breathing, the news release said.

Leech Lake Ambulance was dispatched to the scene while rescue efforts continued. The person was transported to Cass Lake Indian Health Services and pronounced deceased.

The body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Results are pending.

The second person involved in the unrest was arrested and is currently in custody pending formal charges, the press release said.

“The identities of the individuals involved in this incident are not being released at this time,” the press release said. “Law enforcement does not believe this incident poses a threat to the public.”

This incident is being investigated by the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Leech Lake Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and Leech Lake Police Department were assisted on scene by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Bemidji Police Department, Leech Lake Ambulance and Blackduck Ambulance.
